The Matoaka was signalled from the Heads at 0 n.m. yesterday, and arrived in harbour at 11 a.m.. after a passage of eighty-six days. Tho s.s. Moa took tho health officers down to tho ship and on arriving alongside they found that all on hoard were well. Soon after the vessel anchored his Honour tine superintendent, Mr Marshman, secretary for railways. IT. P. Murray Aynsley. Colonel Packe and others arrived and mad© an inspection of the ship. The single girls’ compartment was a pattern of cleanliness, but wo cannot say the same for that occupied by the single men. The cooking apparatus and water condenser had acted excellently during the voyage. The vessel comes out in medical charge of Air E. If. Marshall. AI.D.D Tho Matoaka left Gravesend on November 12, and crossed the line twenty-two days out. She passed tho meridian of the Capo of Good Hope on December 30. J)n February 10 and 17 she several icebergs in lattitude -17 degrees south and longitude 102 degrees to 10< degrees east. From latitude oO degrees south and longitude 117 degrees east she had a succession of light north-east and south-east winds, accompanied with rain and fog, which retarded the voyage at least ten days. The Snares and Stewart Island were passed on February 5. but. the fog prevented their being sighted. The peninsula was made on Sunday last at noon, and the ship arrived at the Heads as above. Two births have occurred during the voyage.
