ARANUI ACTIVITIES.

NOTES AND NEWS. BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION. The usual monthly of the Burgesses’ Association was held in the Schoolroom, Breezes Road, on Wednesday last. .Mr -M. Hall presiding over a good attendance. The treasurer re-'' ported that over £ls profit had been obtained from socials during September, and that accommodation at the School was taxed to its fullest capacity on Saturday evenings. As more seating in. the Dance Room is required, the committee were authorised to obtain forms. , In the event of the loan proposal for the erection of a Social Hall being carried, it was decided to hand over to Heath cote County Council the section of land in Breezes Road, now held by the Trustees for the Aranui Burgesses’ Association. Several matters concerning the district were discussed and it was decided to write to th© Heathcote County Council drawing attention to the dangerous formation of Burton Road, also the danger caused by excessive speeding of motor cars on Page’s Road, especially in the vicinity of Breezes Road which is near to the School and consequently a source of danger to the child ren attending schol. , The report of the delegates on the United Council of Burgesses’ was re-

ceived. Messrs G. Reed, G. Nankeville, and R. Carter, senr. were elected members of the Association. CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS CARNIVAL. The School Committee have decided to hold a Children Fancy Dress Carnival iii aid of School Picnic and Prize Funds. Owing to the overcrowding at the Mission Hall last year it was impossible for the programme to he caijried out successfully. This year the committee propose holding the carnival on Saturday afternoon, November 17 in the grounds, kindly lent by Air Eggo, 124 Page’s Road (near NVamoni), several prizes will be awarded. Arrangements were made for hancy, bruit and Produce Stalls. Coco a nut Shies, Sweets, Ices and Soft drinks. The committee will welcome anj aitides for the stalls and appeal to the parents and residents of the district for their hearty support. In the evening a Euchre Tourney and Dance will he held in the Schoolroom. TENNIS CLUB. The First Annual Meeting of the Aranui Tennis Club took place on Thursday evening last at the School, Mr F. James presiding. The annual report that the club had had a most successful season. No club matches or tournaments were played last, year—the season being too far advanced by the time the club was established —but it is hoped in the not far distant future that the club will be in a position to take part in interclub play. Satisfactory arrangements have again been arranged with Mr J. Sprosen for thp use of his court. It was decided to open on Labour Day with a tournament between teams picked by Mr F James and Mr R. Loveil-Smitli. GIRLS HOCKEY CLUB. The girls have played two matches against the New Brighton Ladies’ Club. The first resulted in a win by six goals to two, and the second ended in a draw, each side scoring one goal. The club possesses material for a very good team, and it is hoped that next year its representatives will have success in the competitions.
