CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS BALL.

RECORD CROWD AT RICCARTON.

Last night the Riccarton Town Hall held tho biggest and happiest assem- | hi age. possibly, that- has ever gathered i under its roof, it being calculated that ; five hundred paid for admission. This I was the first fancy dress ball in conJ nectaon with the Wharenui School, and the parents and children came in their hundreds. In fact, the attendance wav too great for comfort, but the children seemed not to notice that. They j fairly revelled in the atmosphere •of “ make-believe.*’ and had the time of their lives in very pretty costumiugs. The idea of the dance emanated from the headmaster, Mr H. F. Penlington, and the arrangements were carried out by the teaching staff and a small committee of lady supporters of the school. The scheme of decorations, featuring the school colours of red and blue, was v6ry effective. Music for the children's dances and games was kindly given by Misses Ella Farquhareon and Ruth Spragg*'. After supper, and a distribution of fruit to the children, an adult dance was held, with Mr Cow!in at the piano, Mr H. Eagleton as M.C.
