UNIVERSAL FILMS’ SOCIAL CLUB.
PICNIC AND SPORTS. The initial outing of a newly-formed social club of Universal Films took place on Sunday last ’says “ Everyones,” Sydney, of September 19). The party, comprising over eighty people, joined the motor launch Rex at Fort Macquarie and journeyed to Fairyland, arriving there at 11.45. Whilst the catering committee were busy preparing lunch, the contestants for the Gentlemen’s 100 Yards Championship (all Universal), wefe lined up, and the event run off. After several close finishing heats, the prize, a beautiful silver trophy cup. fell to J. Hancock. Then followed the Ladies’ 75 Yards
Championship (All Universal) with a big entry. Several of the contestants in this; rice wore so eveulv matched as to afford the judges. Messrs Harris, Orr. anrl White, quite a perplexing problem: but eventually the trophy fell to Miss I. Xi eh oils (“Baby Peggy”). The trophy for thi- event took the form of a beautiful silver coffee pot Perhaps one of the happiest and most energetic gentlemen of the day was .Mi Mute .M’JnLyiv. who appeared to bo thoroughly in his element as handionpper for the various events. A.s a starter. Arthur Hancock was the last word. His watchful eye made it impossible for any competitor to gain the advantage over tiie other entrants. But this gentleman’s efroits were not confined to starting alone his wielding of the dish-cloth called for many exclamation-. of admiration and envy from the ladies.
