FOOD SUPPLIES GOOD.
NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. “ There is no cause for any feeling of alarm over the food supplies for any of the flooded Canterbury districts,’’ said Mr P. R. C'iimie, organiser of the Progress League, to-day. ‘'The Railway Department are doing all they possibly can to maintain communication with such places as Avoca on the midland railway. There is no occasion to feel alarmed concerning any possible hardships which might be inflicted, though, of course, there is a certain amount of inconvenience.” Mr Climie is keeping a watchful eye on the position generally, and everything that it is humanly possible to improve the lines of communication will be done. WAIMAKARIRI RIVER SAFE. “ There is not the slightest cause for worry over the Waimakariri River. It is now pretty well back to normal,” said the secretary of the South Waimakariri River Board to-dav.
