OBITUARY.
MRS ELIZABETH LEAR. j Mrs Elizabeth Lear, whose death or- ! curred yesterday, was a very old and * well-known resident of Christchurch. I She was born in Manchester, England, n September. 1836. and at the age ol I sixteen came out to Sydney on what I was intended to be only a short visit.. However, she liked Sydney jh» well that a he stayed on. and three years later | was married at St Mary’s Church to MiFrank Hyman. Mr and Mrs Hyman came to Auckland in 1857, and, a short time later, to Lvttelton. where they lived for two or three years, eventually settling in a residence on Ferry Road. Christchurch. Mr Hyman, who owned} a number of vessels employed in trading round the Peninsula, died in September. 1864. About a year later his widow married Mr James Stephen Lear. There were three children by the first j marriage and six children by tho se rond. but the late Mrs Lear survived by four onlv. Mrs Martha Porter, of Sydney Mr F. E. Hvman, of Christchurch: Mrs fsajicl Mason, of Sydney, and Mr Sydney M. Lear, of Perth. Although the late Mrs Lear was of a ing help to many in trouble, and those needing help and svmpnthv. a»J she will be greatly missed bv a large circle of friends. ~
