Y.W.C.A. FIRE.
THE INQUEST CONCLUDED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 7. The inquest on the death of Ina Gourly, the victim of the fire at the Y.W.C.A. was concluded to-day. Several additional witnesses were called, but the origin of the fire still remains a mystery. One witness stated in contradition of the evidence given by the fire brigade superintendent that he did not think the fire escapes were as convenient as had been made out, and that it would take a person with nerve to reach them. The Magistrate said he would inspect them. In the meantime he returned a. verdict- that deceased had died from burns and suffocation. He added that as far as he could see the Y.W.C.A. authorities had made every provision in case of fire.
