DOMAINS FINANCE.

MORE RATING POWER SOUGHT. “ We are not in a very good financial position,” said the chairman (Mr G. Harper) at yesterday’s meeting of the Domains Board. The financial report showed that the receipt-s for April £3B 6s lOd, and the expenses £302 9s sd. There was a debit balance of £836 6s Id at April 30, but there was a con. siderable sum due from outstanding levies. Mr H. J. BesAviclc said that the board’B position was a very serious one, and unless they could increase the levy, they would have to cut down expenses by reducing the labour bill which meant that the gardens would suffer. Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P., said that, with regard to getting legislation through to increase the levy the board should first get the consent of contributing authorities. Unless this Avere done it would be a, difficult matter. Mr J. A. Flesher said that some money might be secured through annual subscriptions. Many persons who prized the gardens would no doubt l>e willing to contribute. The financial position Avas referred to the finanoe committee.
