WHEN A MAN’S IN LOVE.

(By

NOEL MAY.)

It is astonishing how many women are unable to decide whether a man is in love with them or not. When he is not, they imagine ho is; and when he is, they refuse to believe it! In fuel, many girls seem to go through life in an emotional fog, depending upon spoken declarations and unable to decipher the clearest signs. Witness the countless letters on the subject that are received by the editor of any woman’s paper. And yet—nothing is easier than to discover whether a man is sincere, and whether he care* for a girl, even if he has not said so. A woman may possibly conceal her feelings, but no man is able to do it. He may try his utmost but he always betrays himself by sure and subtle signs. “There are two things that no man can ever conceal,” is an old saying. “ The one is love and the other is a cold in the head!” And that old saying is true ! To start with, a man always gives himself away by the expression in his eyes! Watch any man when he is looking at a girl and you can tell if he cares for her or not. The eyes will say what the tongue, perhaps, refuses to utter. He also announces it, no matter what he says, by vthe tone of his voice when he addresses her. There is a story of a certain old lady who said to a girl friend, “Mr So-and-So is in love with you, my dear.”' “ Good gracious,” exclaimed the girl, “How did you guess?” The old lady—who had seen the man in question for less than two minutes—laughed. “ Why, 1 heard him say to you. • Could you tell me the time?’ There is another symptom. /if a man remembers every little remark a girl has ever made to him; if he can recall all her opinions, preferences and tastes—he loves herA woman will forget if her Best Beloved takes one or two lumps of sugar in his tea; if he likes or dislikes a certain author; the size he takes in gloves. But a man never does. One cannot tel! why. Possibly it is because he has greater powers of concentration But the memory of a man where the woman he loves is concerned is one of the seven wonders of the world !
