KEY TO THE PACIFIC
NAVAL BASE AT SINGAPORE By Telegraph—Pr**g Association— Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, May 3. The “ Morning Post,” in an editorial, says: ‘‘The decision of the Govvernment to develop a naval base at Singapore, which for us is the strategic key to the Pacific, is to be heartily applauded. The base is not a challenge or a threat to any Power. It is a mere recognition of our great interests in the East, interests inseparable from our duties to Australia and New Zealand. As for the argument that the base is a flouting of the League, of Nations, it would be well to consider what the League of Nations would be worth if the naval strength of its most prominent member were reduced to a nullitv.”
