CONTROLLER OF CUSTOMS.
.MR G. CRAIG, the newly appointed Controller of Customs, who will take up his new duties on July 1, started his early education in Dunedin and continued it at Victoria College. He entered vbo Customs service a“ a cadet in Timaru in 1891, and was transferred to Christchurch in 1893, a year in which' he was the only candidate to pass the Senior Civil Service Examination with distinction. He was chief clerk of the department in 1910. and assistant Controller in 1913. Tu 1915 he took the decree of Master of Laws. 31 r Craig has made a study of higher mathematics, chemistry, physics and French and other European languages.
