MR P. MENZIES HONOURED.

A POPULAR TEACHER. After thirty-six years at the West Christchurch School, Mr Peter Menzies has retired from his position as first assistant master. Last night tributes to his teaching and sporting qualities were p.ai cl by many speakers at a presentation made in the Sehvyn Street Hall. There was a large attendance of teachers, past pupils, residents and friends, presided over by the headmaster, Mr F. D. Waller. The president of the Old Boys’ Association, Mr T. H. Dolan, presented Mr Menzies with an inscribed gold clock in an oak casket Mr Dolan said that the present was from old boys and girls of the school who were anxious to express their sentiments to one who had such a fine record of service as Mr Menzies. Mr J . H. Jones, chairman of the school committee, presented Mr Menzies with an oak roll-top bearing a silver plate and inscription. Mr H. C. Lane, secretary of the Canterbury Education Board, congratu, lated Mr Menzies on his successful teaching career. He expressed on behalf of the Board its appreciation for his services to education. Messrs E. J. Howard, M.P. and J. Wyn-lrwin and A. Dey also spoke. Mr Menzies was enthusiastically applauded. He said that he was glad to see that what efforts he had made to improve the youth of the school had been appreciated.
