NEWS FROM THE BARRACKS (By “THE ORDERLY.”) In connection witn the recent Anzac Day parade tne Colonel uommauuaui, oouciiern Command, colonel loung, I lias sent a message to ttie ranks concerned expressing satisiaction at tne j turnout and the smartness 01 the TeriiI tonals and Cadets who took part in this parade. Jtspecial praise was accorded to the guard of honour supplied by the Ist Battalion Canterbury ivegiment, under Major Fur by, -N.Z.S.C., who paraded ab the function of laying the foundation stone ol' the Bridge oL Remembrance. The St Andrew’s College Cadets (4th (Cadet) Battalion C.Ja.) supplied a guard of honour for his Excellency the Governor-General on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the Winter Garden. The guard was under the command of Lieutenant J. H. Williamson, who had with him Lieutenant Xeale and Second-Lieutenant. Baybutt. The guard, together with the College Pipe Band, turned out well, and his Excellency complimented them. The military training year, which ends on May 31, is rapidly drawing to a close. During this month the records of all trainees will be checked and the work noted in the personal file of each Cadet. All Cadets who will attain the age of eighteen during this calendar vear are eligible to be posted to the 'Territorials, provided they pass the medical examination. Tn order that these medical examinations may be carried out without interruption, training for the oth Battalion for this year j rrill cease on Wednesday. Cov. | For the ordinary medical examination parades each cadet will parade in plain clothes and bring with him his cadet uniform, which is to be handed in to : the quarter-master’s store. Cadets will ; parade before a medical lxiard. and if j lit will be given an opportunity- of : stating j.o which branch of the territor- ' ials they desire to be posted. The ' actual posting parade will take place i at the King Edward Barracks on Tliurs- | day, May 31, at 7.30 p.m. Training i parades will resume in June on dates to be advertised.

The Bth (Cadet) Batt. will carry out Batt. parade to-morrow evening instead of the ordinary company parades for the current week. The Batt. will proceed on a short route march, and in return will be given instructions as to their future movements. As this is the last parade for, the present training year, great efforts are being made to get the musketry course completed. Each Saturday afternoon for some time past has seen large numbers of cadets at the Barracks firing off their course on the miniature range. So far it seeing ■ | as if the stndard of shooting will be i i high. Shooting will be continued on i each Saturday, until May 26, with the | exception of next Saturday, when the ; Barracks are required for a bazaar. The I twelve-year-old boys for a most part i fired their musketry course at Redi cliffs with .303 ammunition, as next i year they will bo required to fire on the full-sized range for the territorial units. Those boys who are unable to reach the required standard as laid down will he referred back for further instruction, and will be given another chance later on.
