W allis Myers, commenting on the organisation of a fund to send an Australian Davis Clip team to America, headed by J. O. Anderson, and to compensate him for his business losess, says: “This is an interesting development in Australia. It shows the wisdom of the International Beard’s decision not to define the term amateur. Obviously it means one thing in Australia and another thing here, and may mean something else in other countries, according to the financial position of the governing bodies and clubs, as well as the players involved. With seventeen countries competing it would be impossible to design and enforce a uniform definition of ‘ amateur.’ ”
