WHAKATANE PUTS BACK.
ENGINE TROUBLE THE CAUSE.
The Whakavane, which left Wellington at 7 a.m. yesterday for Avonmouth, put back at 1 o’clock this morning, having developed engine trouble shortly after noon yesterday. It was discovered that the port refrigerating engine, upon which repairs had been carried out while the vessel was completing loading, had developed trouble, caused by the condenser. The extent of the damage was not known early this afternoon, but it is hoped to despatch the liner in two or three days for Avonmouth.
