PATRIARCH TIKHON.
CHURCHES DEMAND DEATH By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 30, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 29. The Moscow correspondent of the “Daily Express” reports that remarkable scenes were witnessed at the Moscow District Church Conference, when representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church, The New Living Church, and The Revivalist Church were asked to condemn the Patriarch Tikhon. For two days forty-seven of his followers frantically fought their opponents. They fell on their knees and began to chant Greek Orthodox hymns whenever the Patriarch’s name was mentioned. The prelates and their followers were forced to abandon the fight, and withdraw. The remainder then adopted a resolution virtually demanding the death penalty.
