SLIPPED ON PAVEMENT.
CLAIM AGAINST BUSINESS FIRM. The hearing of a claim for £562 by Mrs AY. Crouch. 32, Bath Street, against Dixon Bios.. butchers, was continued in the Supreme Court yesterday before his Honor Mr Justice Adams and a common jury of twelve The claim was made on the ground that Mrs Crouch stepped on a piece ot fat Dixon Bros. had negligently dropped on the footpath, and that she fell, the accident causing a miscarriage. For the defence, Dr R. Joliet, specialist in midwifeiy and gynecology, formerly Professor of Midwifery at Trinity College, Dublin, and the author of two works ou midwifery, said that it wa s unlikely that there was any causal connection between the accident and the death of the twins Which Mrs Crouch had expected. He did not think that the miscarriage was due to the accident, as the children had continued to grow up to four months after the accident. The miscarriage might have resulted from several causes apart from the accident. Dr AY. H. Simpson said that it was very unlikely that the accident caused the miscarriage. Further evidence was given for the defence to-day. The jury retired at 12.20 p.m. and returned at 12.35 p.m. with a verdict for defendants. Mr AA . J. Sime. for defendants, moved for judgment.
