AUCKLAND, April 9. ! The Ivaikoura is expected to arrive sliortly after eleven o’clock. The message from the steamer, sent at four o’clock, stated that the hatches had been closed and the fire was smoulder ing. The temperature had been steady since 1 p.m., and a further outbreak before arrival was not anticipated. The float and fire brigade arc- in attendance at the wharf, and gangs of men are ready to unload the cargo, while the harbour board plant is ready for action in teaching the scat of the fire. Later. The number fo-ur hold of the Kaikoura is full of wool, flax and tallow. It is anticipated that the damage will be considerable, as smoke is still is- • suing from th© hold. The Kaikoura. which is- a twin screw steamer of 8731 tons, owned by the Now Zealand Shipping Company, left Wellington for Opua at fire o’clock on Saturday evening last. ANOTHER FIRE.
