AUCKLAND NOTES.
(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND. April 6. In preparation for events at the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting, which opens on Saturday, some interesting gallops were recorded at Ellerslie yesterday morning. The outside of the course proper was available for special gallops and the number one grass was also open. On the course proper Lord Star defeated Royal Abbey comfortably over a mile in Imin 44 3-ssec. Prince. Abbey, from a standing start, went six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Lucius and Queen March sprinted four furlongs in 49 3-osec. Illumination was too good for Sheffield over six furlongs, run in lmin 19 l-osec. Landslide accounted for Electrode over seven furlongs in lmin 32 l-ssec. Roseday and Royal Blood finished a mile together in imin 43 4-ss©c. On the number one grass Boomerday finished half a length better than Elsie Aroha over six furlongs in lmin 17 l-ssec. Fleeting ran five furlongs alone in lmin 4 3-osee, and Lady Ridicule accomplished a similar task in lmin 3 4-oscc. Nocturne went nicely over four furlongs in 49 l-osec. Thespian was going better than. Lisfcowel at the end of four furlongs, run in 49 3-ssec. Tactful easily beat Bute Sound over four furlongs in 48 3-ssec. Xamutere led Surveyor over five furlongs in lmin ssec. The latter was finishing strongly. Tamatete, under a pull, got over five furlongs in lmin 6sec. Refinement and Archie were on even terms at the end of four furlongs in 48 4-ssec. Broadwood covered six furlongs in lmin 16 l-osec. and Lady Glissas sprinted four furlongs in 49 4-osec. Midget and Praiseworthy were well clear of Barometei* and Uncle Warn at the end of seven furlongs, run in Item 30 2-osec. The two last-named took lmin 32sec. Emerald Hill sprinted four furlongs in 50sec.
