RUGBY FOOTBALL.
The Rujrby football season waf opened unofficially this afternoon, when the Ifarists, Merivale and Christchurch clubs hei 1 practice fames at Hagley Park. Considering that the summer pastimes are not yet finished, each club had a. good muster f players of all grades. The weather wae a. bit too hot for football, thourh a cool breeze from the east tempered the heat of the sun. and the ground was very har.l Under the circumstances, the games were not of a very strenuous nature, but th*» players put in some useful practice.
