Richard Dix has been signed for a five-year contract to play leading roles with Paramount. Dix had just finished the lead in “ Racing Hearts J’ in which I Acmes Ayres is starred, and lief ore 1 that plaved John Storm in “ The 1 Christian.” J. L. Lasky, of the Famous Players- Laskv Corporation, predicted in making the announcement tliat Dix would soon be recognised as one of the foremost of film actors. Is the statement contained in the following telegram from Los Angeles, dated January 29. just publicity or the real thing:—“Two days’ leave of absence from their duties were requested to-day by Norman Kerry, Universal star, and Captain Albert de Conti, technical director, according to a report emanating from Universal City. Kerry and Captain Conti are the two celebrities who are not on speaking terms, and who recently announced their intentions to settle their quarrel by fighting a duel with pistols, swords or what not. Mexico, they have said, would be chosen as the field of honour upon which they would seek satisfaction.” Comes now the report that both have asked for time off, to enable them to get to Tin .Tuana to stage their duel. Kerry is the actor who is regarded in some quarters as likely to take Valentino’s place with the public.
