CONRAD NAGEL.
PARAMOUNT LEADING MAN. Conrad Nagel was born in the State of lowa and received his education in Des Moines, lowa, and graduated from Highland Park College in the city at the age of seventeen with a Bachelor of Art degree. Mr Nagel’s first appearance before an audience was in a college play. After his graduation from college he joined a stock company in Des Moines and at the end of the season was playing the juvenile leads. Later he went on a vaudeville tour for six months and then undertook the legitimate drama. His big opportunity came when the star who was playing “ Youth ” in “ Experience ” was taken ill, and Mr Nagel was asked to play the part. He went on without a single rehearsal and was so convincing that lie was asked to sign a contract. His first appearance before the camera was with Alice Brady in “ Little Women.” He also appeared in a stage production with Miss Brady entitled '‘ Forever and After.” It was while he was thus engaged that America joined in the world war and Mr Nagel enlisted in the navy. Upon his return after the armistice he again appeared in Miss Brady’s productions and was then borrowed by the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation to play a leading role in the “ Fighting Chance.” Mr Nagel has appeared in many notable productions, including “ Midsummer Madness,” “ What Every Woman Knows.” “ Sacred and Profane Love.” “ Fool’s Paradise.” and “ Saturday Night.”
