MB W. CROSS ANN STOCK. (Special to the “Star.”) DUNEDIN. March 9 Messrs Strouach. Morris and Co., held a sale, of Mr W. Crossan s thoroughbred and lig&t harness stock this afternoon. There was a good attendance of the public, but the. bidding was tint brisk, and it was apparent that the greater number of tfcostpresent were present merely out of curiosity. Tlie highest price was obtained for the pacer brown Chequer. The auctioneer i.Mr A. Scott) asked for a bid oi 600 guineas and then 500 guineas, but no offer was forthcoming. He then asked it anyone would bid 400 guineas. An otfer was received at this figure and as there were no other bid? Brown Chequer waknocked down at 400 guineas. Bidding to - il fine upstanding yearling colt by Stockade out of Bronzewing started at ‘2-» guineas and was taken in 5 guinea advances to 100 guineas, when it slackened off. Mr Crossan then announced that be had received a telegram from Mr Free Holmes (Christchurch) offering 2Cu guinea.for the eolt. No advance was offered on this price and the colt was then placed with Mr Holmes. The Kilbroney—Parable filly was started at 100 guineas and wasold at 140 guinea-. Raconteur was sold cheaply at 35 guineas, bidding commencing at -25 guineas. There was only one bid of 100 guineas for Parable with a Cay had filly at foot dud no sale resulted. Aphaea. with a Gay bail colt foal, was started at SO guineas and sold at 9 fl guineas to Mr R. <\ Heed i.as agent;. Delia, who is in racing condition, brought £37 10s, bidding starting at 10 guineas.
