STEAMER IN DISTRESS.

Tlie steamer .Mindini. bound from the Solomon Islands to Sydney, is ashore on the Mejlish reef, and is in a perilous position. All the passengers and the crew were safely landed at the Herald, beacon. Several steamers are rushing to the assistance of the Mindini. in. response to wireless calls. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. March 8. A wireless message was received by the Secretary of tlie Post Office from the steamer Mindini. which stated that the vessel was in serious distress ou the Mellish Reef, off the Brisbane toast, and required urgent assistance. The Mindini is a steel screw steamer of 1065 tons, owned by Burns. Philp and Co.. Ltd. She was built in 190 S by the Blyth Steamship Building Company at Blyth.
