General Smuts interviewed regarding the forthcoming Empire Economic Conference. said that he had received ai. invitation from Britain to attend in April, but lie had refused, the month being inconvenient. He thought also that April would be inconvenient to the other Dominion Prime Ministers. The New Zealand and Australian Premiers were badly placed in Parliament. while th Canadian Premier hail no majority to depend on. He himself faced a thorny parliamentary session, and as he was unable to leave, he thought that the conference would be considering the present crisis in EuTfioe.
