OBITUARY.

MRS ISABELLA CAMPBELL. The death has occurred of Airs Isarbeila Campbell, wife of Mr Ronald Campbell, formerly of Chertsey. Airs Campbell was in her eightieth year, and with Air Campbell came to New Zealand some fifty-eight years ago, immediately after their marriage. She was born in Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland. and made the trip to the colony in the old sailing vessel Blue Jacket, the voyage occupying several months. From Lyttelton, Air and Airs Campbell went to South bridge, where they followed a rural occupation, later removing to the Barr Hill district, where they went in for cropping. Forty-five years ago residence was taken up in the Chertsey district. Air and Airs Campbell were amongst the oldest settlers in that part. Airs Campbell was a devout churchwoman and a staunch supporter of the prohibition cause. For a considerable time she held the presidency of the Mothers’ Union at Chertsey. Her charitable disposition endeared her to the hearts of all with whom she came into contact and she was regarded as perhaps the most well-informed woman over a wide district, and right up to the last ehe was a been reader, showing an unusual inclination for the heaviest and beat literature available. During the war period there was no more enthusiastic supporter of patriotic movements, despite her age. and it is a noteworthy fact that from the outbreak of hostilities to the conclusion, she knitted socks

and other garments for the soldiers practically all the time. Three years ago Air and Airs Campbell retired and took up residence at Hampstead. Airs Campbell bad been more or less an invalid for the last few years, and two months ago she was compelled to take to her bed. There are five sons and one daughter in Canterbury. These are: —Messrs Donald and Archie Camp bell (Chertsey). Colin and Ronald Campbell (Ashburton), and William Campbell (Timaru), and Aliss Alary Campbell (Ashburton).
