The protests made by the Ashburton County Council concerning the departure of the afternoon train from Christchurch to Ashburton have borne fruit. In order to board the train it had been necessary to traverse an overhead bridge, which meant climbing numerous steps, and the same tiling applied to the matter of exit from the subsidiary platform alongside v.hick the trains were stopped.
