Andersen, Canterbury Chess Club.— ! Present champion of Canterbury. First I won' Canterbury championship in 1896, beating the late Henry Hookliam for that position when a lad of sixteen. Tied for fifth place in 1896 and 1897 championships. Has not played in New Zealand championship since January, 1897. Rev N. Freyberg, Canterbury Chess Club. —Canterbury’s second string. Played board 3 for Canterbury in seven telegraph matches, winning four games and losing five. Dirk Pihl.
