HAVE YOU A LUCKY NUMBER?

“ Twenty-two ” is claimed by Mr H. S. Staveley. the. new country court judge for Northamptonshire, as his lucky number. Bidding farewell on July* 10 at Ban bury Quarter Sessions, he said he was born on the 22nd clay of the month, christened on the 22nd, married on the 22nd, his two children were born on the 22nd, he was called to the Bar on the 22nd, appointed Recorder of -Banburyon the 22nd, and his appointment as country judge was dated the 22nd. Dickens looked upon Friday as his lucky day, and so did Louis XIII of France. On the other hand, Ford Byran held Friday in dread, and there is a common impression that to whistle on Friday is to court trouble. Some great men have* believed that particular days of the month were especially favourable to them. Cromwell's was September 3rd. and Charles V. saw his star in the ascendant oti February 24th. KITCHENER’S DAY. Lord Kitchener regarded June 5 as his luckv day. It was on June -5, 1599. that the sum of £30.000 was rdted to him as the cs Victor of omdurman ” ; June 5, 1902—iust three years afterwards to the very hour—a further sum of £50,000 was voted to him for ending the South African War.
