AKAROA REGATTA. The weather op afaturday was ell that j could Le desired for tho Akaroa Regatta. - the heat being tempered by a light cool ; breeze which, in the open harbour, pro- j vided sufficient power to propel the sail- i ing boats, but in-ahore scarcely ruffled the , surface of the rowing course. In the ah- I sence of an excursion steamer the visitors j consisted of the crews and the club men j interested in the results-of the racing. Tho , course was short, being about three-q.uar- : tera of a mile, and tho result was ihet. • with two exceptions, racing was par- j ticularly keen, the winning crews having to race all the way. Local people wore gratified at the success of the Akaroa Club, whose representatives secured four firsts and two seconds. Union gained the largest number of points for the D.U.L. 'Mftteia, with 28, Akaroa scoring 27. Avon 26, Canterbury 29, Cure 5 and Sumner 1. The arrangements were complete and well carried out by an excellent- team of officials, the starting being particularly good. Tho officials wore as follow:—Judges: Messrs G. Armstrong (commodore). A.
