A CHRISTMAS APPEAL.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Once more on behalf of the Prison Gate Brigade Home, Addington, I desire to launch our annual Christmas appeal. This year has been the hardest during the eleven years I have been in charge of this institution. There are crowds of men to house and feed on a greatly reduced income, for when things are bad our income is one of the first to suffer. Still I have every confidence in the hearty help and sympathy of the ladies, gentlemen and business firms in Christchurch and district. They have siood by us nobly in the past, for which they ha-ve my most hearty thanks. The men assisted, and the meals and beds supplied this year are nearly double the number of last year. We desire by their kind assistance to give a Christmas dinner and tea to all who come to the Home on December 25. I am also anxious to get a little financial help with which to start the New Year. Kindly read the following figures, which give an idea of the work done. Entered : In the Home at beginning of the year, 39; from Gaol, Police Ckrnrt and Street, 643. Total, 682. Passed Out : To situations, 111 ; seeking work, 499: sent- to friends, 3; sent to other institutions, 11 ; in the Home at end of year, 68. Total, 682. 62.957 meals and 22,508 beds have been supplied. Please send donations to the Horae, 62, Poulson Street, Addington. With thanks for past help, and wishing all the compliments of the season. — I remain, Yours to help the needy, R. BARNES, Manager.
