Iho Taxation Committee has retoir* mewled fresh taxation, namely. £1 per annually on male residents, excluding Fijians, between sixteen and sixty year a of age. who are British sub jeets or of European descent, or South Pacific Islanders; secondly, a tax of £> »-*er head on other males, reducible to £2 when the pavers are engaged T: agriculture or public works ; thirdly, non European and non-British immigrants shall pav an immigration fee of £.50 before landing. The recommendations are not »p proved by the Secretary of State, and the elected members unanimously protest. 1 The committee also rocommehdt* .v tax of one half per cent on exports iujd I per cent on imports.
