BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNER. A meeting ol' lhe Sumner Borough Council was held last night; present—the Mayor (Hon j. Barr, M.L.C.). Councillors H. C. S. Jamieson, 11. C. Jones. V. E. Hamilton. F. O. Cooper, A. Holden, C. M. Roswell, and T. E. Whitfield. The standing committee reported that the engineer's monthly report had been received. Metal had been placed on Stoke Street, Estuary Road, Morton Street, and Clifton Hill, and tar-washing was proceeding. A new sump overflow pipe had been constructed at Shag Rock reservoir. Three chains of cast-iron 3-inch mains with fireplug had been laid at Cave Terrace. Five new water connections had been made, and water leakages reported by the inspector ; repaired. The drays were undergoing j overhaul. The repairs to pipe-line at (he salt water bath had been made, and the decking of jetty repaired. Grass was being j cut on the streets. The engineer reported that the cost of ; raising the outer wall 154 feet and 2 feet at the creek outlet would bo £-18 10s. This the engineer did not think would abate the silting at the mouth of the creek. He recommended a pipe-lino six chains long for the purpose of carrying off the stagnant water, and there was a certain quantity of pipes in hand which could be used 1 temporarily and which, if satisfactory, could he put down permanently later. It was recommended that tho engineer’s suggestion be adopted, and that an iron wall four feet high be constructed for tho purpose of stopping sand-drift. It was agreed that the petition from residents in Redcliffs regarding the proposed conveniences be held over till the next, committee meeting. The committee recommended the appointment of the following, nominated by fixe Life-Saving Club, as beach inspectors: Messrs H. Bui tie. T. Newburgh, S. Clark. < . S. Booth, S. R. Smith, T. Smith, J. O. Macdonald, R. King. A. C. Allen, F. J. (Mack in, J. Brown. F. Regnamt, H. C. Jamieson, G. F. Allen and J. H. Maxwell. It was approved that licenses to build huts at Taylor's Mistake be granted to IV. H. Foord and \V. Chisnall. A deputation having waited on the Mayor with the object of having the results of the elections published in the borough as received, the committee approved of the suggestion and authorised the making of the necessary arrangements.
