THE SHIPPING TROUBLE.

APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY. December 4. The Union Steam Ship Company has decided to appeal for volunteer labour to man the idle steamers under New Zealand pay and conditions on "Wednesday. It is generally expected in shipping circles that sufficient labour will be forthcoming to recommission all the ships. The company has also directed the attention of the Arbitration Court to the dispute, claiming that the sea men’s striking has constituted a breacn of the award. A meeting of seamen decided that members of tho union should endeavour to get aboard vessels when volunteer labour was asked for and “ white ant” the crews and create trouble. The company has been besieged with volunteer labour to man the Moeraki. and no doubt the vessel will sail.
