MR ARCHER’S REPLY.
TO TITE EDITOR. Sir,—The “ Weekly Message ” of which Mr Isitt complains neither asserted nor suggested that I was referring to indentured labour in Samoa, cither exclusively or particularly. If people understood it to do so, that was their fault. I applied it to indentured labour as such, whenever and wherever it raises it 6 execrable head. Essentially it is the same in Samoa as everywhere else. Slavery varied in detail of man agement or operation ; but all over the world it was one thing, and only one. So is the wage system of modern industry. So is indentured labour. Any missionary who advocates it ought t » be withdrawn from the mission field and sent somewhere to learn what Chris tianity means. Mr Tsitt has constituted himself the champion of indentured labour, and he must take the conso quences. 11l tempered personalities will not shield him from criticism and condemnation.—l am. etc., J. K. ARCHER. (This letter is referred to in our editorial columns Ed. “ Star.”)
