MINERS' FEDERATION.

GOVERNMENT AID REFUSED By Teleirraph—Press Association-Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, December 2. Mr Bonar Law. Sir William Joynson Hicks (Parliamentary Secretary of Overseas Trade), Sir Montague Barlow f Minister of Labour) and Mr W. Brace • Labour Adviser to the Department of Mines) met the executive of the Miners’ Federation at Downing Street. An official statement says that Messrs Smith and Hodges described the hardships arising from low wages, and asked the Government to take ameliorative measures. Mr Bonar Law replied that, while fully recognising the miners’ hardships, he saw no need for alleviating them by Government aid. The executive of the federation will assemble again on Wednesday to consider what action shall be taken.
