THE EXHIBITION.

BIG ATTENDANCE ON SATURDAY. j The Christchurch Industrial Exliibi- [ tion, which is now in its third week, is - scill capable of attracting attendances, 1 surprising even to the most confident of its well-wishers. Saturday was an exceptional day. The building was 1 thronged from early morning till closing > time by a crowd—a delighted crowd—- > which veemed very reluctant to depart. • -V large number of country visitors at- ? tended during the day. Naturally the exhibits dealing with c.he primary in- > <irstries attracted the lion’s share of I r.ttontion, but the necessities of the town were not neglected. Children, too. were very much in evidence—in fact, well over 1000 paid for admission during the day. The charm cl the Exhibition for the young New Zealander with an interest in his country is a most gratifying feature, and there is no doubt that tho impression of such a display must do iauoh to foster pride of country, which happily is being inculcated in our future men and women. The attractiveness of the approach to and entrance of the Exhibition has been further enhanced by the installation of n coloured light display on water. Tho idea is novel and it provides a very charming sight from the Cashel Street bridge. CHI?ISTMAS SHOPPING. The facilities that the Exhibition offers fov the purchase of attractive, appropriate and useful Christmas presents has been realised by many visitors. and many over-the-counter purchases have been made. Manv order.lor tho delivery of Christmas goods, ton. have been made, and in addition to being sure of patronising New Zca land goods only, the purchasers have also helped good causes, for stalls such a c those conducted by the returned sol- i diers and other deserving sections of j the community offer splendid presents. 1 ELECTION NIGHT. I It was ve.-v i-.foresting on Saturday to lollow v.il ious groups o, visitors on tl.cir tour of tl’.u Exhibition, and to notice the tastes of the individual I assorting themselves. A number of ! Saturday - v.:items seemed to make foi | , ’ an »exe. alter a casual look round j the- main building, and then were satistcu to find diversion watching mochani- j (; ’ 1 contrivances, endeavouring to win j hexes of chocolates at tho various hoop Ja boards, and generally finding much enjoyment out of tho few side shows. Others took a great interest , i’i the main building. From a coramer j ciai standpoint, from the standpoint of ' the expert in each particular line, or j Ini man, tho large exhibition room proved the most interesting and attractive ' haven. Others again were inclined to j spend an hour or two watching the j kinrma. ,md with an apparently never ! ending interest, listening to the radio ! broadcast concerts and wondering at ' .the wonder of wireless. Then there wore I others, lovers of art. who spent most of their time, after a casual survey of the industrial exhibits, among the pictures in the art room and in the room devoted to war paintings. Thus all sections of the community were catered for. an 1 proof was given that for every ore diversion, interest, and of course ser vice can be given by Now Zealand goods, manufactured or produced in New Zealand.
