CHRISTMAS FAIR.
The Christmas fair held in aid of the Sydenham Baptist Church extension fund was brought to a successful conclusion or. Saturday. In the afternoon a great crowd of children and their mothers assembled to see Father Christ mas, who arrived at three o’clock. A competition for children’s fancy costumes attracted a large number of en tries and some very pretty costumes. The prize-winners were as follow* : Prettiest costumes—Alavis Good (Cupici; and Marie Oliver (Bluebell). Alost original—Keith Campbell (Baker! and Tommy Roberts (St Dunstan Cigar ottos). Cheapest costumes—Joyce Hales (Wood’s Flour), Elm;*, Beckett (Bluebell) and Kathleen Beckett (Poppy). Special—Tui AlacDougall (Christmas Tree). 11l the evening the Sydenham Salvation Army Band gave a programme of music, and great business was don© atth© stalls, which were almost denuded, of their contents. Tli© results of other competitions were announced as follow: —Word-building—Mrs N. Dimoud 1, Miss P. T. .Webster 2, I>. AI. Harrison 3. Christmas grams—Mies H. Napper 1, A. M. Harrison 2, Mrs E. Towart 3. Limerick- -Mug J. Willoughby 1. Mrs C- A. Williams and Aliss N. Clem ents (equal) 2. Mrs N. Diinond and K Hogsden (equal) 3. The gross takings for the three days’ fair amounted to over £2BO.
