TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Air H. Y. Widdowson, S.AI.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was convicted and discharged. Another was fined 10s, default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. John Alullins was fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness and for a breach of his prohibition order he was fined 20s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. VAGRANCY. Christina Mills pleaded not guilty to the charge of being a rogue and vagabond. Evidence was called to show that accused had l>een seen in tho company of convicted thieves and prostitutes. YVhen arrested last night she was in i drunken condition. “ It’s swearing my life away. I am not guilty,” said accused. .She admitted being drunk. Since November, 1919, Mills had been convicted of being an idle and disorderly person and also of being an incorrigible rogue. There were a number of other convictions extending back over a period. On the charge of drunkenness accused was convicted and discharged and I'o* vagrancy she was convicted and sentenced' to twelve months’ imprisonment . THEFT ALLEGED. Alargaret M’Dermott, who was charged with the theft of 18s 3d from John Alullins, was remanded till Wednesday, as she was in a bad condition through drink. CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES. Robert Bell, a recent arrival from Auckland, was? charged with false pretences by issuing a valueless cheque (for the sum of £22 9s 6d) at Kaiapoi. He was remanded till Wednesday.
