SILVER JUBILEE.

CATHOLIC PRIESTS HONOURED. The silver jubilee of the ordination of --the Rev Father J. O’Connell, S.M., and Father Fahey, of Temuka, was celebrated at a happy conversazione last evening it- St Mary’s Memorial Hall. Manchester Street. Father O’Connell, and Father Fahey, with Father M'Ponnell, procurator of St Patrick’s College, Wellington. were ordained at Meanee (Napier) in 18:17 by his Grace Archbishop Redwood. The chair was occupied by the Rev Dean Regnanlt. There was a crowded attendance. Dean Regnault said that for twenty-five ypars Father O’Connjsll and Father i'alley had been the channels and instruments of God’s grace to the people in their diocese. The jubilarians whom they wore honouring were among the first priests born, educated and ordained in New Zealand and were the first priests ordain ed in New Zealand who had hailed from Canterbury. He wished the Jubilarians many long years of happiness and fruitful work. Mr M. Prendergast, secretary of the Conversazione Committee, read a congratulatory address presented by Mr H. H. Loughnan and written and illuminated by the Sisters of Mercy, Colombo Street. Heartiest felicitations were extended by Sir George Clifford, and Mr F. Holly. Father O’Connell and Father Fahey returned thanks. A very much appreciated musical programme was gk-en.
