AXxr Ar. XI K ETING. ’Hie annual general meeting of the’ Mothers’ Union for the diocese of; Christchurch, was held yesterday afterf noon at St John s Schoolroom. Hunter, gave a comprehensive j account of the work throughout the ; diocese. The branches numbered ,3S. ; with a membership of 11H7. The re- i ports Irom these branches were very J satisfactory. The Mothers* Union re- j ligmus education .scheme was prog res- i sing slowly. It bad been suggested i that tlie work should be concentrated ou ono or two districts. Messengers would, be sent out to visit the homes ; of church people to urge upon mothers the necessity of teaching religion in. j the home. Branch reports were also received from the various centres of the diocese. The report was adopted -on the motion of Mrs Petrie, seconded by Airs J. R. Young. The Archbishop, in introducing Professor Condiiffo, who deliveredc-an in- j teresting address on “ Citizenship,” commented on the excellent work which was being performed bv tho Mothers’ Union in tlie matter of protection of women and children. There was a groat deal of trouble in Now Zealand owing to the neglect of the children. ! It was sad to him that so many ehil- j dren had to be boarded out. This was 1 a matter for the Mothers’ Union.
