Mr Massey stressed that the present - position made him more optimistic than he had been since + Jie slump. He referred to the steps taken to assist farmem and. the savings made by economy. The political issues of the day were dealt with fully. Mr Massey announced that Mr Jessep, chairman of the Meat Board, who had done goovl work in London in connection with marketing and securing lower freights, is returning to the Dominion. and a gentleman who had been at the head of the Imperial Supplies Department during the war was going Home to take Mr Jessep’s place. It is understood that Mr Massey refers to Mr T. R. Lees, now secretary of the Meat Board. A vote of thanks and confidence m the Massey Government was carried with acclamation. Mr Mansey stated that recently he received an offer from a firm in Eng- i land of half a million at a low rate, which was confidential. He replied stating that he would take a million, and got it at a price not dreamt of in New Zealand during the last ten years.
