RAIN IN CITY.
an EASTERLY DRIZZLE. At 8 o’clock this morning very fine easterly rain fell in the city and continued in a very light drizzle up till one o’clock, with every indication of for the sake of lawns and gardens, although it interfered with Saturday sporting fixtures. At Rnngiora a very light drizzle set in very early, but it was hardly sufficient to benefit the country, which is badly in need of a heavy rainfall. At Leeston this morning the sky was very overcast, but rain had not commenced to fall although it was expected. The rain followed on a heavy nor’wester which blew hard all night. The prospects at present are that the rain will continue. Only fifteen inches of rain have fallen in Christchurch this year. this figure being more than six inches less than that of last year at the same late.
