A Philadelphia telegram states that a slight operation was performed on the middle finger of Tilden’s right hand, which became infected .after a scratch.
Sensational reports that Tiklen may never play again in championship tennis are not warranted, the doctors belittling the danger. They say that the finger is improving. though it mav take six weeks to heal. AY. T. Tilden, national singles champion of America, has a remarkable record in international tennisi Although he is not regarded as the equal of men like Brookes and the late Anthony Wilding at their best, he holds the foremost place in the tennis world toc»ay, and lias shown his ability to rise to great heights in championship singles play. This year he has beaten G. L. Patterson and J. O. Anderson, ihp Australians, as well as his redoubtable American opponent W. M. Johnston .
