AN IMPORTANT AMENDMENT. (From Our Correspondent. ) WELLINGTON, October 10. The proviso that an accused had reasonable cause to believe that a girl whom lie is charged with indecently assaulting was over the age of sixteen years is repealed by an amendment to the Crimes Act which was read a first time to-day. A similar proviso in the case of carnal knowledge is also repealed. Prosecution foig the latter offence. it is now proposed, may take place nine months instead of «ix months after the alleged commission. Clause 350 in the original Act. re lating to certain other crimes, is widened to make every person who incites or attempts If) incite any person to com mit a crime equally punishable with the .perpetrator. Finally, the amendment extends the power of a Justice to grant a search >t.
