The Palestine Administration has invited all the countries represented in Palestine to participate in a great scheme to complete the excavation of the ancient City of David. The city of Jerusalem was held by the Jebusites. for some years after David’s accession to tho Kingdom of Israel. Eventually after a prolonged struggle lie succeeded in capturing the city. He then established his royal city on the eastern hill close to the Jebusite Zion, while Jehus, the town on the western side of the Tyropoean valley, liecamo the civil city, of which Joab. David’s leading general became ■governor. David surrounded the roy-a-l city with a wall and built a citadel, probably on tin* site of the Jebusite fort of Zion, while Joab fortified the western town. North of the city of David, the king, acting under divine guidance, chose a site for the Temple of Jehovah, which was erected with great magnificence by Solomon. The actual site occupied by this building Has given rise to much controversy, but all authorities are agreed that it must have stood on some part of the area now known as the Haram.
