A FOOTBALL QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —T had expected to find supporters of Rugby entering a protest against the decision of the Canterbury Public Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association to limit their competition to public schools. Possibly a dying season and other interests is responsible for lack of interest, but 1 think any one will admit tho truth of the Rugby Union’s statement. namely, that the exclusion of Marista (for this is what it amounts to) will have serious consequences. X understand the association’s attitude was that, the competition was becoming too bulky to allow other schools to join in. They did not reconsider even when the Rugby Union offer to pay a proportion of expenses for secretarial work- I am not out to criticise the association—there may be other circumstances not disclosed—but 1 think it would be a pity if rugby ranks were split up in this way, because the schools are the training centres for the coming pi avers. —I am, etc. ONLOOKER.
