Club 270 v. Brighton, defaulted. OTHER MATCHES. Crown Brewerv 268 v. Cashmere 261. Crown Brewery 331 v. Brighton 328. 'Ward’s . Ladies 498 v. Brighton Ladies 188. Th© following shows the position of the teams competing in the junior competition POSITION OF TEAMS.

This week's matches are as follows: Ward’s Brewery v. Adams. Ltd., Kaiapoi Woollen v. Reere’s, Mechanical v. Svdenham. W. M. Club v. Crown Brewerv. Railway v. New Brighton. With this week’s matches the junior competition closes. The Working Men’s Club team at present are lending by two points and this week's result cannot deprive them of the championship. There were two very close matches last week. The first- was that between Kaiapoi Woollen and Sydenham. Kaiapoi’s last two men had to average 33 to draw the match, lmt they rose to tlie occasion, making 34 each, thus winning hy two points. Burgoyne. Pell and Beaton with 34 earn wore top scores for the winners, with Hay, Junr., 35, Gibbons 34, and Piper 34 the best for Sydenham. Railway defeated Adams. Ltd.. hy one point. It was a good score on the part of both teams. Gallon 34 with C-rossan 33 for Railway, and Wear 34, Edwards 33 and Velvin 3.3 for the losing side were the chief scorers. Reece's had no difficulty in defeating Ward’s, putting up what would have been a good score for a .senior team, viz.. 264, to which Ward’s replied with 248. The surprise of the tveek was tlie defeat’ of Mechanical by Crown Brewery Juniors. After their score of 262 the previous week Mechanical were expected, to do better than 236. No doubt, however, the losers found the range much harder than any other they have shot on this season a.nd the experience will be of benefit to

them for next seat-on. W. Gray deserves credit for getting his young team on so well. He has some young shots who show great promise and more will be heard of them if they now shooting more consistently and several are showing good/ form, the best of then- being HaJmshaw, Junr., Warren, Edwards and Brizley. The first named is shooting splendidly, his average for the second round being just on .33J. He is evidently a chip of the old block. Brighton Juniors again defaulted to W. M. Club Juniors. The latter in shooting over the range put on the magnificent score of 270. There is no doubt that, the Working Men’s Club could run two senior teams, as tho present juniors are showing much better form than that displayed by some senior teams in the late competition. The following were the possibles last week : —Alexander. Hang hey (Reece's), Hay. Junr. (Sydenham), Hall, R. Smith, Beer (W.M.C.), L. Pimm, J. Davison (Crown Seniors). There were k ‘ miles of smiles and smiles for miles and miles and miles of smiles ” last Wednesday night on the City range when Hay junr got a possible for the Sydenham Company v. Kaiapoi. In fact it was hard to pick out who hjicl really *• done it.” Messrs* Left senr. Gockroft senr. and Hay senr, deserve a lot of praise for tlie way they are bringing the lads along. They were only beaten by two points and are to be congratulated on their fine shoot. The first friendly match between Crown Brewery and Cashmere was fired last week on the former’s range and resulted in a victory for Crown by seven points. Each side fired thirteen men with the five lowest cut out, and the shoot resulted as follows:—Crown - Davison 35, Dockery 34, Hempleman 34. Pimm 34. Warren 34, Craig 33 M’Masters 32. Ale ares 32 ; total. 268. Cashmere—Gabb 34, M’ Elrov 33, Diack 33. Hogarth 33, Neill 32. Newton 32. Walker 32, Hunsley 32; total 261. After the match th© visitors were entertained at supper. O. Hempleman. captain for the winners, in proposing the toast to the Hills Club, congratulated them on their fine position in the senior competition after being promoted from juniors this season. C. R. Walker replied on behalf of Cashmere and this brought a very pleasant match and evening to an end.

There is only one more match to fire for the " Ashbv ” Aggregate Cup and it looks as if M’Donald. of Recce's Club, will win. R. Hay junr. is a son of the genial captain of the Sydenham Seniors. He put on 35 this week and as lie is only thirteen rears of age. his shooting speaks volumes for the coaching he has received from his father. The Miniature Rifle Association's winter tournament closer this week with the conclusion of the junior matches. Tt has been a season, the best in the history of the presentassociation. ('•town Brewery have evidently got another eood recruit in Craig. who fired liis first match for them against Cashmere. After starting with two fours, he never missed tlie inside of the white ring. The Tim am Association is holding the Canterbury next September 30, commencing at. 1 p.m. The events are open to all clubs in Canterbury. The secretary of the Christchurch Association, Mr Arthur Tongue, is in touch with a firm with respect to a new range, and will be able, to report something definite in the course of a week or twoSome seuior clubs have put their rifles away till next year, but the majoritv are shooting a few friendly matches with the object of keeping in form for the New Zealand championship meeting at Ashburton next month. It i» up to the clubs to come forward and help the association as it lias to get a range for 1923 The association will need all the help it can get if next season is to be as successful as the one just- drawing to a close. Grown Club finished the shoot for the Dockery Cup last week. The result was a tie between M Master, Edwards and Brizley, and in the shoot off Edwards and Brizley 3 gain tied with 33 each, M’Master notching 32. The shoot-off will take place this week.
