The architects engaged by the Beard of Governors of Canterbury College have been instructed by the- Museum and Library Committee to prepare sketch plans of additions‘ to the Public Library buildings, to provide further accommodation for the reference department and the juvenile department. A delegation from the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers, the largest organisation of woodworkers in Great Britain, is now on its way to New Zealand, states an Auckland paper. The Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers has ’a membership of nearly 200,000. It was formed some two years ago by the amalgamation of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters, the General Union of Carpenters, and two unions of cabinetmakers. The Amalgamated Society of Carpenters was established in 1872 as a branch of the society in Great Britain. One object of -the delegation is to review the present position of the society here and make certain adjustments necessitated by the amalgamations in Britain. The delegation will also visit Australia, the United States, and Canada. ft is expected that the visitors will make a close study\ of. the industrial laws in New Zealand, #nd the question of immigration.
