During the afternoon and | evening the stalls wore well patronisj ed. The judges were Mr Jones, of j Christchurch (flowers), Airs Gardiner, Sumner (domestic). LADIES’ RIFLE CLUB. At the shoot held on Thursday evening the high standard of the club was maintained. Airs O’Connor and Airs Bartley tied for the brooch. with a score of 68 each. Airs O'Connor winring the shoot off. Messrs Aicheson and Stean’s trophy was von by Mrs Bartley. The match for Mr J. Edmond’s trophy was commenced, the best scores being:—AJiss Keig 67. Miss Allen 66, Mrs Bart’ey 64, Mrs Glackin 61 BEACH IMPRO VEAIENTS. The recreation ground prepared at the Scarborough end of the beach has now been completed, and the surroundings are very much, improved. At the last meeting of the Borough Council a vote of thanks was passed to Messrs 11. Buttle, J. R. Maxwell and Richards for voluntary work done in connection with the beach improvements. SEA SCOUTS. The Sea Scout training ship, Annie Hill, is being renovated ’tween docks, and everything will lie in trim for the opening in October. The wiring on the vessel has been completed, and will be connected up this week. To facilitate the work of connecting the ship with the main wires, a Dole lias been placed between tho ship and the shore. The section committees are working hard to ■make the Scout Gala a .success, and Air Alonck has kindly consented to allow his paddock near the Sailing Club pavilion to be used for the erection of stalls for the occasion. * SUAINER-REDCLIFFS DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. The first official meeting of the new-ly-formed Defence Rifle Club was lieli this week, when Mr C. Ai. Roswell presided over a large -atcndance of members. The Defence Department wrote stating that the club had been officially gazetted and that rifles and ammunition could be obtained on application. It was decided to make immediate application for sufficient rifles so that members would be in practice for the forthcoming rifle meetings—two of which will be held at Redcliffs range at an early date. The question of affiliation with the South Island Rifle. Association and the Canterbury Rifle Association was discussed and it was decided to affiliate with both these bodies. A number of residents joined up as members. REDCLIFFS GALA. A very enthusiatic meeting was held in tho Community Hall on AA ednesday,
